NewJeans Returns as Four-Member Group for 4th Anniversary, Sparks Debate Over Danielle's Absence and Concept Shift

K-pop girl group NewJeans celebrated its fourth debut anniversary on July 22, with official channels unexpectedly releasing new commemorative content. Member Minji (민지), whose status had been uncertain, made a surprise appearance, widely interpreted as confirmation of her continued participation in the group. Following a prolonged legal dispute with agency ADOR, NewJeans unveiled its first new content featuring a four-member lineup: Minji, Hanni (하니), Haerin (해린), and Hyein (혜인), delighting fans. However, the released videos and group photos also ignited polarized discussions across Korean online communities.

On July 22, NewJeans' official YouTube channel released a 59-second commemorative video titled “2026 Summer of NewJeans,” along with four individual member videos, each approximately one minute long, totaling five new content pieces. Official social media channels simultaneously unveiled new group and individual photos, a rabbit logo animation, and an ice cream design featuring the fandom name “Bunnies” as part of the fourth-anniversary celebration.

In the video, the four members appear sequentially against a backdrop of a summer evening country road. Minji is the first to emerge, followed by Hyein, Hanni, and Haerin. They are seen holding hands and smiling at each other, creating an atmosphere of a long-awaited reunion.

Notably, this marks the first time NewJeans has released new group content under the “NewJeans” name in 16 months, since their performance at ComplexCon Hong Kong in March 2025. Minji's official appearance became the biggest highlight, widely seen as a clear signal that she will continue her activities as a NewJeans member.
