BTS's contract renewal fee triples, exceeding 10 billion!

2023-09-21
The boy band BTS had members enlisting in the military one after another last year. In addition to Jin and J-Hope who enlisted earlier, the member SUGA is also going to serve in the military this month. The band is currently in a hiatus. Fortunately, as of 20th, the good news that all members have renewed their contracts was finally announced, making the details of this renewal highly anticipated by the public.
On the 20th, HYBE, the agency of BTS, officially announced: "The board has completed the renewal of contracts with the seven members of BTS under BIGHIT MUSIC." Not only is this the second contract renewal for all BTS members, but Big Hit Music also made a donation of one billion Korean Won to the Korean Committee for UNICEF to thank BTS and their fans, ARMY, sparking much discussion.
Although there are currently members serving and about to enlist, based on the content of the renewal, the group is expected to reunite after being discharged in 2025. Therefore, investment securities companies have made analysis and speculation on the details of BTS's this contract renewal.
The investment securities firm stated that during the renewal process with HYBE and all the members of BTS, the exclusive contract fee proposed could reach more than 21 billion Korean won. From an investment standpoint, the target purchase price of the stock is still maintained at around 340,000 Korean won.
Investment securities analyst said, "In 2018, BTS's first contract renewal fee was 70 billion Korean won. However, Bang Si Hyuk also separately gifted the members 68,385 shares (approximately worth 166 billion Korean won) at that time. Considering the previous contract renewal cases, the exclusive signing fee this time is estimated to exceed 210 billion Korean won."

Although authorities have not provided an official response regarding the duration of the second renewal, industry experts suggest that for the group to resume their official activities in the latter half of 2025, it would necessitate a period of at least five years, including the completion of the full members' military service. "Currently, members like Jin, J-hope, and SUGA are either serving or have confirmed enlistment dates, but RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook have yet to fulfill their military service obligations. If BTS aims to continue as a complete group in the latter half of 2025, all four remaining members must complete their enlistment by the fourth quarter of this year or the first quarter of 2024."
After the speculation about BTS's renewal fee was revealed, it immediately ignited a wave of discussions among netizens. Some netizens commented, "Considering how much BTS earns from just one tour, it's not a waste for HYBE to invest that much in the renewal contract," "Is it 21 billion per person or a total of 21 billion? Either way, it's enviable," "It's actually less than what I had imagined," "When you look at how well their albums and concerts sell, the renewal fee seems quite reasonable," "Giving 21 billion per person doesn't seem excessive at all," "While the final share payout is crucial, the renewal fee also reflects their individual value, making it equally significant."
