On the 12th, in the YouTube program "Go for an Excuse" by Yoo Jae-suk and Ji Seok-jin , SHINee Key was invited as a guest for a conversation.
However, in the comments for "Go for an Excuse", a netizen left a message saying, "Teacher SHINee Key, our son's leukaemia medicine costs a lot, which is not covered by health insurance. Thank you for your support. Thanks to you, our son is doing very well now. Once again, I bow in gratitude to everyone," publicly sharing the untold good deeds of Key.
This heartwarming tale, previously unknown even to the fans, has garnered attention from netizens who left touching comments such as, "Although this is the first time I've heard such a beautiful story, it feels very heartwarming. I hope the son can fully recover his health," "The son is healthy now, what a relief," and "It seems to be at Seoul National University Hospital! I hope the baby who has been suffering for treatment can live happily."
In 2019, before his military enlistment, SHINee's Key visited Kyeongbuk University Hospital and donated 10 million Korean won. At the time, Key visited the patients' rooms, took photos for memory, and conveyed messages of encouragement. The hospital stated that all the donations will be used for the treatment and goods support of patients with financial difficulties.
In the second year, fans of Key commemorated his 30th birthday by donating 12.1 million Korean won to the Korean Leukemia Children's Foundation. The Korean Leukemia Children's Foundation has stated that all of the donations will be used under the name of SHINee Key to support single-parent families struggling financially due to the COVID-19 pandemic in covering emergency pediatric cancer treatment expenses.
Moreover, Key reflects on his debut journey, saying, "It's something I probably can't accomplish again. When I didn't know anything, I just kept trying, but it was exhausting as we originally started as a team of eight. We were chosen among 20 boys, but there were also friends who had to go back to China. We didn't even end up saying a single word to each other; every single second was too precious... Since it was the final test, we had to submit a video, and that marked the end of our time with our mentor. I put in a lot of effort into introducing myself in that video. The people I had once practiced with were no longer my teammates; instead, they became my rivals."
Key also mentioned, "At that time, there were three people who were almost always there, Jonghyun and Taemin were always there, and Minho's performance was sometimes good, sometimes bad, it was a little back and forth, but those two wouldn't let go, they were confirmed members, and there were only a few kids left, so all I had to do was go up," expressing the difficulties of debuting at that time.
