On the 7th, Korean media reported on the release details of the Korean drama 'Squid Game 2', along with a slight glimpse into the storyline of the upcoming series.
"Squid Game 2" is scheduled to commence filming in mid-July, intending to create a total of six episodes. The projected production cost is 100 billion won, nearly five times higher than that of the first season.
In the second season, the protagonist remains Seong Gi-hun, portrayed by Lee Jung-jae. The enigmatic game master, portrayed by Lee Byung-hun, will make his official appearance in the second season. At the conclusion of the first season, Seong Gi-hun was initially planning to board a flight to the United States to reunite with his daughter. However, he made a phone call to the game master en route. Ultimately, Seong Gi-hun's expression hinted at his potential participation in the squid game once again.
Among the second batch of cast members for the second season, one notable addition is Choi Seung-hyun, the former member of BIGBANG, known as T.O.P. He made his impressive silver screen debut in 2013 with the film "Commitment," and his portrayal in "Tazza: The Hidden Card" in 2014 highlighted his exceptional acting abilities.
According to insider information, T.O.P will be taking on a role in the drama as a former singer who has departed from the entertainment industry. Given the character's background, the role necessitates an actor with rap and dance skills, leading to rumours that Director Hwang Dong Hyuk personally chose T.O.P for this particular role.
The news was shared on the forum, triggering sarcastic responses from netizens criticizing the casting decision. Comments such as, "Can he even dance?" and "The reasoning behind this is so flimsy," were prevalent. Others questioned the necessity of selecting T.O.P, suggesting that there are plenty of individuals who possess both rap and dance skills, along with acting talent.
Some netizens pointed out that T.O.P never extensively showcased his dancing abilities during his time as an active idol, leading to skepticism regarding his portrayal of a character requiring such skills in a supporting role.
"Will he have to rap while playing the game? Why is rap even required? And even if it is necessary, why choose that particular individual?" "There are plenty of actors with idol backgrounds, and I find this explanation highly unsatisfactory." "Do I have to deliver my lines in rap style?" "Isn't it about time to consider a different choice?"
